Marionville IOOF Cemetery
A Place of Memory, Meaning, and Ongoing Care
Located on the east edge of Marionville, the IOOF Cemetery stands as a quiet record of the people who shaped our town—families, veterans, founders, and neighbors whose stories are woven into Marionville’s history.
Established in 1887, the cemetery began with three acres carefully fenced to protect its sacred ground. Over the decades, additional land was added, forming what locals now know as the Old Old Part, the Old Part, and the New Part. Each section reflects a different chapter in Marionville’s growth, marked by family stones and memorials that span generations.
The cemetery has long been cared for not by a single entity, but by the dedication of local citizens. In the mid-1900s, lot owners came together to ensure the grounds were maintained, eventually forming an incorporated Cemetery Association and establishing a memorial trust to preserve the site for the future. This spirit of shared responsibility remains a defining part of the cemetery’s story.
Today, Marionville’s cemetery continues to be honored and restored. A new metal entrance sign proudly displays the linked chains symbol of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, representing Amicitial, Amor et Veritas—friendship, love, and truth. Volunteers have devoted countless hours to uncovering, cleaning, and restoring historic headstones, ensuring that those laid to rest here are remembered with dignity and care.
More than a resting place, the Marionville IOOF Cemetery is a living reminder of where we have been—and a testament to a community that continues to honor its past while caring for it in the present.
